The students of the prestigious Costa Badminton Centre, Kundapura, have delivered an impressive performance in this year’s badminton tournaments. They clinched the championship title at the Udupi District level and earned selection for the Zonal-level Badminton Championship – a matter of great pride.

The Costa Badminton Centre has once again proven that with quality training, true champions can be nurtured. Young trainees Melran Kotha and Shayan Shetty showcased their talent by winning the U-14 Doubles and Singles titles at the Udupi District Badminton Championship, organized by the Karnataka State Department of Education, thereby qualifying for the Zonal level.

At the championship held in Ajjarkad, Udupi, Shayan Shetty of St. Pius X English Medium High School, Hanglur, and Melran Kotha emerged as champions in both Doubles and Singles, bringing laurels not only to their academy and school but also to the entire Kundapura Taluk. The pair first secured the title at the Taluk level and then repeated their success at the District level to earn Zonal qualification. Additionally, Melran also won the U-14 Boys Singles Championship at the district level, while the duo together bagged the Doubles Championship.

At the Taluk level, Joshua D’mello and Annswi D’Souza won silver medals and were selected for the district level. Similarly, academy talents Wilsha D’Almeida and Zuleka secured silver in the U-17 Girls Doubles at the Taluk level, advancing to the district stage.

Quality coaching at Costa:
Over the past year, the Costa Badminton Centre has nurtured several promising talents. Head Coach Somanna Nanjappa has been instrumental in guiding and motivating young players, with training sessions starting as early as 5 a.m. The academy’s manager Nidheesh Acharya has also played a key role in their success.
